All of the great achievers of the world have accomplished great things by doing, not by talking about that which they wish to achieve, nor by solely thinking about what they want to happen. The movers and shakers of the world are the ones that walk the walk.
The world has an abundance of highly intelligent people who are not very successful. These people have untapped potential that simply goes to waste because they don’t turn that potential inside of them into something kinetic. The unsuccessful fail to act, or they give up when encountered with resistance.
“Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.” – Bruce Lee
To be a man or woman of industry is to be a person of action. To be a man or woman of action is to be a person of success. In order to be successful you must be industrious and persistent and work towards your goals despite failure.
Failure is a mindset. I didn’t believe it when I first heard that phrase, but failure really is just a matter of perspective. If you act, but do not at first succeed, then you have gained experience, and you can learn from your mistakes if you take a lesson out of them instead of letting your mistakes discourage you. Maintain a positive and growth-oriented mindset and no failure can prevent you from reaching your goals.
“Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” – Theodore Roosevelt
What are you doing with your life? Have you been industrious, spending the time you have been given on this earth well? What memories have you left for those you love to remember you by?
If someone were to read your life back to you, would it sound like an accomplished life with purpose, or would it be just another boring short story in which not much happened? Would you think, “I should’ve done more”, or would you be without regret knowing that you lived a full life and accomplished things that were worthwhile?
MISCONCEPTIONS OF INDUSTRY
Being industrious does not mean becoming a workaholic and dedicating all your time into your profession. Being industrious means to always employ your time and energy into something useful.
Say you’re off from work and don’t know how to be industrious with your free time. You can read a book instead of mindlessly watching TV or staying up all night watching every episode of a new show.
Put your time into your hobbies instead of lounging around eating chips or instead going out every night to get drunk with your friends. Have your time for fun (literally plan it), but you make it something useful that promotes your growth, or work hard enough to not feel guilty for going out to drink with your friends,
Utilize free time to build a skill or to learn about something that interests you. Exercise. Do something active. It may seem like work in the beginning, but you will soon develop some level of mastery and that workout or that book or hobby won’t feel like a chore anymore.
In fact, engaging in activities like that will leave you energized and will clear your head of all the stresses of the week. Personally, I feel more energized and ready for the work week when I have accomplished a few side goals during the weekend instead of sitting on the couch, and I guarantee you will too.
LASER FOCUS
The virtue of Industry promotes focus and gives direction. A large part of the reason why a vast number of people constantly feel anxious or depressed or uncertain is because they are not busy working towards their goal and living their purpose.
When you are being industrious you don’t leave the mind enough time to stray into negativity and create problems. Can you feel the difference in your energy levels, and in the thoughts you have, and the way you feel about yourself on a day you went out and got your business done and crushed your day as opposed to a day you laid around and did nothing but Netflix and chill?
The Chinese have a saying, “Running water never grows stale.” Be focused and active by being industrious and staying on the side of progress. Due to mujo, we are constantly changing and thus we are at any given moment either progressing or regressing.
Being industrious doesn’t give you the time to start regressing. If you take something from failure and keep working toward your goal, then you will always be on the side of progress. If you wisely employ your time and energy, how could your life not improve?
Being focused attracts what you desire. The best way to attract what it is you want is to deserve it. The way to deserve that which you want is to do what you believe is necessary to attract it. It is a very simple equation.
The effort and time you put in will give you back exactly what you put in. The Principle of Cause and Effect states ” Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause; everything happens according to the Law; Chance is but a name for Law unrecognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the Law.” – The Kybalion
The bad-asses of the world got to where they are by putting in the time and effort, by being industrious. Successful people focus their time and energy on what they want, and they put in the time and effort. The universe rewards them because they deserve the reward.
When you put yourself into alignment with what you want, you attract it to you. For example, you want to be rich. If you stop spending money on things you don’t need, live below your means, and you wisely invest and find ways to increase your income, then by the Principle of Cause and Effect one day you will be rich.
HOW INDUSTRY BUILD CHARACTER AND DISCIPLINE
It all comes down to you. What are you producing? People like to say circumstances and/or other people are the reasons why they never accomplished the things they say they would. That blame game is really just an attempt to shed responsibility for failing to meet the mark because complainers don’t want to take responsibility for their own lives.
The people who play the blame game don’t want to have the spotlight shined on them because they know deep down that they are the ones at fault. So they attempt the shed responsibility for their failure to take action in order to protect their fragile little egos.
By being industrious you are taking charge of your time and being responsible for your own life and taking responsibility for what you do and for what you don’t do.
Once you have accepted responsibility you can build discipline, and discipline comes with many healthy character traits riding on its tail. Industry builds discipline by developing the character of someone who will do what needs to be done despite how you feel, by making a plan and sticking to it, and by developing a good work ethic.
Disciplined people do what must be done despite resistance. They live by the virtue of Perseverance. The undisciplined people give up and accept a lesser life because they fear failure and hard work, and when you give up you polarize towards regression and your character traits regress accordingly. Likewise, by being industrious you polarize to progression and attract and cultivate higher quality character traits.
CONTROL TIME
Industry makes you aware of how you spend your time. Awareness is key to control. Once you are aware of your time, you can decide what to do with it. Create a plan and stick to it. Most people are terrible managers of their own time, which is why most people have a boss to tell them what to do.
Knowing you’ve wasted your time is an unpleasant feeling, and time isn’t something you can get back. When you become aware of things you do that waste your time you will slowly start cutting those distractions out of your life. Time is the most precious resource you have, so have control over it and plan what you will do with it.
HOW TO IMPLEMENT INDUSTRY INTO YOUR LIFE
Its simple. Plan and execute. Have faith in the compounding effect because all of that effort will add up over time. Plan in order to channel your energy (focus) and raise your awareness of your time expenditure so that you can control how you use it.
Make lists, buy a planner, or make schedules on your phone. It doesn’t matter how you plan, so long as you do it. Find the method that works for you and make adjustments along the way to become more efficient. Then resolve to do what you ought and execute. Be a doer. Be industrious.
