THE PRINCIPLE OF POLARITY

“Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half- truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled.” – The Kybalion

This Hermetic Principle embodies the truth that all things have a pair of poles, and the differences between the extremes are but variations of degree. Temperature can be divided into the extremes of hot and cold, yet both are identical in nature, they differ only in degree. It can be easy to go from loving another person to hating that person, what is different is not the feeling itself, but the degree of its vibration.

When you turn to hating someone, an easy way to return to loving them is to remember what made you love them in the first place, and by fostering these thoughts by use of the Will, you will vibrate at the desired mental state and polarize back to loving them. This is how you use the Principles of Vibration and Polarity to control mental states.

The two most important poles, which exist in all other poles, are those of Positivity and Negativity. By determining which side of a certain scale is positive and which side is negative you can vibrate accordingly to the positive side and avoid negative mental states. Do not attempt to “kill out” an undesirable mental state. What is meant by that is to avoid focusing on the negative and instead using the Will and Attention to cultivate the positive.

Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, but only transformed. Thus you must focus on the positive pole of a given mental state by use of the Will, in order to transform that mental state from negative to positive. You cannot destroy fear. However, you can transform it, by concentrating (using the Will to focus Attention) the mind on courage. To do this, one must persist in cultivating vibrations of courage, which may take time depending on the degree of fear one experiences. However, eventually one will be able to polarize to the positive pole of all things by use of the Will to direct the Attention to the positive pole.

Remember: All is positive. The key to making that statement a reality is to use the Principle of Polarity to polarize to the positive pole in everything. For example, if you happen to be poor at the moment but desire to be wealthy, using the Principle of Polarity to correct your situation, you should cease cultivating thoughts of scarcity and poverty and instead begin to cultivate thoughts of abundance and wealth.

One might say that to be poor is a terrible thing. However, the Principle of Polarity teaches us that all truths are but half-truths. Keeping this in mind, one can say that perhaps poverty was not such a horrible thing if one can overcome poverty and learn and grow from it.

Being poor taught me the importance of budgeting and the importance of using my finances in a resourceful way. Poverty forced me to want better for myself, promoting self-discipline and the continuing of my education. So can we really say that being poor was so negative if I polarized to the positive end of that spectrum and overcame it?

Perhaps some of us have to experience the negative aspect of things in order to want better for ourselves. If you never experienced sickness or poor health, would you ever be motivated to exercise and take better care of yourself? If you had never experienced feeling weak and dumb, then where would the drive to be strong and smart come from?

In summary, your life experiences and mental states are dependent upon your perspective and which pole (negative or positive) you choose to vibrate on. Using the Principle of Polarity you can transmute thoughts, energies, and emotions in your life that have held you back and prevented your growth so that you may continue to move forward and improve yourself.
