STORY OF THE HAWK

I was riding my bike to work this morning and was stopped on the sidewalk waiting for traffic to clear so that I could cross the street. It was beautiful outside. The air was fresh, clouds floated like mountains of cotton above and the breeze was nice and cool.

I sat on my bike waiting and enjoying the weather when I noticed an enormous hawk circling the street across from me. It glided through the air effortlessly, barely tipping its wings to either side, the hawk sailed through the air. It was a beautiful site to behold.

My attention snapped back to the road. The way had cleared and so I sped across the road and started peddling uphill. As I did I looked up to see where the hawk had flown, and it happened to be right above me.

About 20 feet in the air above me the hawk was in a position that put it directly in front of the sun. I had my sunglasses on and I could clearly see every detail on this hawk, and it was staring right at me.

The bird was big, no doubt about it. It’s face was stern and beautiful; it’s gaze was mesmerizing. I continued peddling, keeping my eyes locked with the hawks and I ascended the hill.

Our eye contact was broken and the hawk circled through the air but came back to glide above me once again. We looked at each other again, man and bird, and I felt as if I had been touched by nature.

The experience was beautiful and I could not stop thinking about the hawk for the remainder of my ride to work. What an incredible world we live in and what amazing creatures we share this world with I thought.

It’s experiences like this that assures me that this universe, the creator, god, or whatever you want to believe in, is an artist beyond our comprehension.

Some people would like to believe that we’re all just a big random happening, and that we are simply these complex combinations of atoms that got lucky with evolution and that’s all there is to it.

Maybe we did get lucky with evolution, but it’s beautiful experiences with nature like this one that convinces me that the beauty of this world is too profound to be random. There is an intelligence to this universe.

The Principle of Correspondence is a useful way to prove that we are made in the image of the creator. As above, so below. As below, so above. Being an artist, I can take images from my head and manifest the same thing in this physical reality. Doesn’t creating something in the physical from something we cannot see in the mental sound like something that a god can do?

Go out and experience the beauty of nature, and then decide what you think. Are we random combinations of atoms that evolved over time, or is there something more to this universe that we exist in? Or maybe it’s a little bit of both?

If you don’t know, that’s okay. You don’t have to be sure right now. It’s a lot to think about, but what’s important is that we enjoy the beauty that surrounds us because one day it will all be gone.
